On May 6, 2020, the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standards Committee) officially released the recommended national standard GB/T 38880-2020 “Technical Specifications for Children’s Masks”. Children’s protective masks: The masks have high requirements for airtightness and protective effect, and are mainly suitable for use in highly polluted environments or scenarios with high potential risks;
Children’s hygienic masks are barrier types, which require high barrier properties of mask materials. They are mainly suitable for children to wear in daily environments.
Specifications: The head and face size data of Chinese minors (GB/T 26160) determines three specifications: large (L), medium (M), and small (S).
Basic requirements:
1.The mask should be able to safely and securely protect the mouth, nose and jaw
2.The mask includes at least three layers: an outer water-proof layer, a middle filter layer and an inner moisture-absorbent layer.
3.The raw materials of the mask should have no peculiar smell, and must not use recycled materials or materials known to cause skin irritation or other adverse reactions. Materials, residues of other restricted substances, shall not be bleached with chlorine.
4.The mask should not have accessible sharp corners and edges, should not have detachable small parts, and should not pose any hazard to the wearer harm.
5.The mask should be easy to wear and remove, the mask should be of appropriate tightness, there should be no free ends, and there should be no obvious sense of oppression during wearing. Or tenderness, which has little impact on head movement.
Appearance requirements:
1.The inner layer of the mask must not use dyed or printed fabrics; the surface should not have defects such as damage, oil stains, and deformation.
2.The mask should be equipped with a nose clip, and the nose clip should be made of plastic material.

Protective performance
Children’s protective masks require a filtration efficiency of not less than 95% and a protective effect of not less than 90%
Children’s hygienic masks require a particle filtration efficiency of not less than 90% and a bacterial filtration efficiency of not less than 95%
Comfort and performance
Children’s protective masks require that the exhalation resistance and inhalation resistance are not higher than 45Pa; children’s sanitary masks require ventilation resistance not higher than 30Pa.
