The incoming fabrics have odor, which is generally unacceptable to customers. Except for aromatic finishing, normal fabrics are required to have no special odor. When odor occurs, we need to know how to prevent it and find out the source of the problem. This article explains Some causes of odor and printing and dyeing auxiliaries that may produce odor.
Odors mainly include musty smell, high boiling range petroleum smell, aromatic hydrocarbon smell, fishy smell, etc., which are explained one by one below:
part 1 musty smell
Musty smell is mainly produced by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi that decompose organic matter on textiles and absorb metabolites. Since there are many types of microorganisms and are greatly affected by the environment, musty smell is a general term for a type of odor. During the production and processing of textiles and garments, microorganisms are prone to breed due to improper process arrangements, long construction periods, and humid environments. The warehouse storage environment is relatively humid, and environmental factors such as moisture and rain during transportation may produce musty smells.
part 2 High boiling range petroleum smell
In spinning and textile printing and dyeing finishing, some additives containing mineral oils such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene are often used as lubricants or solvents. For example, some oil agents are often added to reduce friction and static electricity when spinning chemical fibers: when wool is opened, wool oil is added to feed static electricity, improve the opening effect and reduce fiber damage; kerosene has an EHLB value of 6-9 and is often used as a dispersion (For example, binder BH uses kerosene as a dispersion), and is often combined with water and emulsifiers to form A paste as a thickener for paint printing; some oils used by machines in the production of clothing, etc., these factors will give textiles Brings petroleum smell.
part 3 Aromatic hydrocarbon smell (or fragrance)
Aromatic hydrocarbons refers to the general term for hydrocarbon compounds containing benzene rings. In the production, printing and dyeing and finishing processes of textile clothing, the textile auxiliaries used often contain aromatic hydrocarbon compounds such as: benzene, phenol, styrene, toluene, xylene, aniline, benzoic acids, etc. In addition, fragrances are used to cover up odors and introduce unpleasant aromatic odors.
part 4 fishy smell
The fishy smell is mainly caused by the odor of trimethylamine [N(CH3)3], a by-product produced during the baking process of textiles after resin finishing. However, some of the by-products trimethylamine will exist on textiles in the form of methane salts, which will decompose into trimethylamine during storage or consumption, resulting in an unpleasant fishy smell.
The relevant auxiliary ingredients that may produce odor in printing and dyeing auxiliaries are for reference only and are for actual analysis of actual problems.
