Smart clothing has now become a major topic in the fashion circle, and people are full of expectations for them. In particular, the advent of smart wearable clothing has given great advantages to the elimination of additional accessories such as smart bracelets and smart running shoes. It is more convenient and more accurate, so it has higher advantages than smart bracelets and other products after entering the market.

Smart wearable clothing enters the market, and three major advantages force smart bracelets to retreat.

The advent of smart wearable clothing has made everyone full of expectations. This may be a huge market, much larger than smart bracelets and smart watches. Its advantages and possibilities make some things possible.

Li Ning and Huami Technology, a Xiaomi ecological chain company and developer of Xiaomi bracelets, jointly released its first smart sports running shoes, bringing China’s largest sports product manufacturer into contact with the current cutting-edge smart wearable devices.

Smart sports running shoes are not a new concept. 10 years ago, Adidas released a similar product called Adidas 1. In addition to data monitoring, it can also connect to the motor shock absorption analysis system of the sole through sensors to provide runners with the best running shoes. Cushioning boost. However, after 10 years of development, the market’s response to such products is still tepid. In the middle of last year, there was even news that Nike would lay off its smart sports equipment Fuelband team, which caused people to worry a lot about the prospects of this new field-although at CES earlier this year, Nike still launched its Brand new smart sports running shoes Air Mag.

In fact, with the innovation of sensor technology and the advancement of smartphones under the mobile Internet, the smart clothing represented by smart sports running shoes is ushering in new opportunities.

According to the industry quarterly report released by IDC in April this year, global wearable device shipments will reach 45.7 million units in 2015, a year-on-year increase of 133.4% from last year’s 19.6 million units. Although wrist-based wearable devices represented by smart watches and smart bracelets will still account for more than 80% of shipments, smart clothing will suddenly emerge as a fast-growing category.

A forecast report from Gartner shows that in 2016, global shipments of smart clothing will surpass wrist-based wearable devices to reach 26 million pieces, and will become the largest category of wearable devices. Last year, shipments in this category were almost zero.

In this category, in addition to various smart sports running shoes, another recent product in the field of smart clothing is also particularly eye-catching, which is the Hexoskin smart sports vest from the United States.

Like all wearable devices, wearing Hexoskin will not make you run faster, but it can record your exercise data and evaluate whether your exercise status has reached your physical limit through the mobile APP.

At present, Hexoskin smart vest has a wide range of practical uses. In the United States, NASA uses it to conduct human condition tests in various space simulation missions, while many professional athletes use it to judge fatigue and monitor exercise levels. There are even cases of circuses using it to check performers’ physical fatigue in real time.

In fact, compared to the running shoes worn on the feet, the clothes worn on the body are a market with greater potential. The various features that can be seen so far make it a strong competitor and substitute for wearable devices such as smart bracelets and even smart watches in the future.

According to Zhidongzhi, there are three advantages of smart clothing:

1. More portable. Compared with smart watches, smart bracelets, smart glasses and other wearable devices that are “additional accessories”, smart clothing will neither change the user’s wearing habits nor increase the user’s “burden”, and it does not require all the time. Worry about forgetting to wear or losing it.

2. More accurate. Close-fitting clothing is “equipment” with a large contact area with the human body and can directly “touch” core human organs such as the heart and lungs. Not only does this allow it to have more sensor touch points, but the range of data collected is also broader and more accurate.

3. More popular. At present, most of the larger wearable device manufacturers are technology startups that have been established for three or four years, and their brand influence and user base are still limited. Many of the smart clothing players are well-known sports brands such as Adidas and Nike, which already have huge and loyal user fan bases. At the same time, they also have inherent advantages in category scale, design capabilities, and sales channels, so the smart clothing trend led by these manufacturers will be more appealing and penetrating.

However, despite its huge technical advantages and being favored by the industry, the promotion of smart clothing still faces some dilemmas.

Generally speaking, its current disadvantages also have three points:

1. The price is too high: Although there are many low-priced products priced at three to four hundred yuan or even one to two hundred yuan, this is not a common price choice. Take Hexoskin as an example. A set of its smart vests costs up to US$400 (approximately RMB 2,500), and the accessories are also expensive. The prices of smart clothing products from major sports brands are also much higher than those of the same level. Regular style. The higher price threshold means that smart clothing can only be used in special fields such as aerospace, military, professional sports, etc., making it difficult for ordinary consumers to use it.Get the market. In fact, smart clothing needs to complete the transition from experimental products to low-volume products to mass consumer products, and the first prerequisite for this is that the price must drop.

2. Waterproof: Unlike most wearable devices and smart sports running shoes, smart clothing that is often worn for strenuous exercise requires frequent cleaning. Whether it is its sensors or batteries, the waterproofness of these sophisticated devices attached to soft clothing is really worrying. Although we can improve it through waterproof coating, the cost, washability and high temperature problems in the washing machine currently have no solution that can be promoted on a large scale. Many solutions currently seen are to place the battery on clothing in a detachable way and turn it into a module. However, in fact, this is no different from the “additional accessories” mentioned before and is not the ideal form of smart clothing. .

3. Difficulty in upgrading: Ordinary clothes are not durable goods, and they are even fashion items that need to be purchased frequently. However, it is obviously impossible for consumers to buy new smart clothes every now and then like daily clothes. From the perspective of wearing, the latter usually has fewer styles; from the perspective of sports, it is more like a consumable; and from the perspective of intelligence, it cannot be compared with smart phones or smart watches. Simple program updates to resolve issues and upgrade functionality.

For a new category that is just getting started and may explode next year, the current smart clothing products are indeed not perfect. However, with the drive of market demand and the joint efforts of traditional clothing giants and Internet companies, it is not difficult to achieve rapid technology upgrades and product iterations. More importantly, many industry opinions also believe that this more personal and rigid smart wearable device seems to be more effective in solving the curse of many products being “discarded after being worn for 90 days.”

This is a trend, especially when the foresighted industry bosses have already made plans. Maybe you still think this is far away from you. But don’t forget that two years ago, you wouldn’t think you should wear a smart bracelet when you go out and look back every day to see how many steps you have taken.
