Yesterday, the 89th World Textile Conference opened in Han, and nanofibers became a hot topic among experts. Wang Xungai, chairman of this World Textile Congress and dean of the Textile College of Wuhan Textile University, is one of the authoritative experts in this field. He revealed that the yarn currently produced in his laboratory can be as thin as less than 100 nanometers, which is only half the fineness of existing nanofibers in the world.

It is understood that the diameter of nanometer-level yarn is smaller than bacteria and viruses. If mass production can be achieved, protective products that can resist most bacteria and viruses will be produced, especially against PM2.5.

Wang Xungai introduced that nanofibers can be used as high-performance materials, including filter materials such as masks, energy materials such as battery separators, and medical materials. Compared with ordinary textile materials, high-performance materials consume less raw materials and provide better results. For example, masks made of nanofibers can resist most bacteria and viruses because the yarn has been thinned to the nanometer level, and bacteria and viruses are mainly at the micron level, and are much more effective than existing masks. “Masks made of nanofibers can 100% resist fine dust like PM2.5. Of course, if it is to resist the Ebola virus, more layers of protection are needed, and breathing obstructions must also be solved. question”.

Wang Xungai said that although nanofiber has matured samples in the laboratory in recent years, it has not been able to be mass-produced. This is exactly the problem that the global textile industry is trying to solve. There are two main reasons: first, mass production is still technically difficult, and second, production costs are high. Currently, Wuhan Textile University is cooperating with relevant enterprises in Jiangsu and is already at the forefront of the domestic industrialization of nanofiber technology. It is expected that mass production of nanofiber materials can be achieved and brought to the market in three years.
