At present, China’s annual denim production capacity is estimated to have reached more than 1.5 billion square meters, and China has become an important producer of denim in the world.
In terms of production, China’s denim market sales reached a peak in the mid-1990s. Due to the large scale of China’s denim production, it can basically meet the needs of the domestic market. At present, the domestic market is still the main consumer market for denim in China.
In terms of denim imports, it is mainly reflected in the processing trade of denim. From January to September 2011, the import volume of pure cotton denim was approximately 111 million meters, with an average unit price of US$1.34 per meter; from January to September, the import volume of cotton blended denim was 5.84 million meters. , the average unit price per meter is US$2.91, with varying degrees of growth year-on-year. The total import volume throughout the year is close to 155 million meters.
Exports mainly involve bulk consumer products. In the first three quarters of last year, China’s denim exports were 413 million meters, a year-on-year increase of 13.9%. The average export unit price of pure cotton denim per meter was approximately US$1.71, which was basically the same as the same period last year; cotton blended denim It was US$1.30, a year-on-year decrease of 14.5%.
Technically, although the development and production of denim products in China started late, it started at a high level. It has advanced equipment such as air-jet spinning, automatic winding, ball warp dyeing, shuttleless looms, and heavy-duty pre-shrinking and finishing machines. It creates good conditions for the development of denim varieties and improvement of quality levels.
