Dr. Andreas Neudeck and his research team at the Thuringia Vogt Iand Textile Institute in Germany are developing a process that can make the base fabric structure locally conductive and combine it with sensors and actuators to form a microelectric system on the surface of textile clothing.
This technology is divided into two aspects: first, traditional techniques such as jacquard weaving, warp knitting, knitting, weaving or embroidery are used to deposit silver metal on polyamide fiber as the base structure; then the matrix of the base structure is subjected to galvanic coupling and electrochemical treatments to alter conductivity and surface properties.
After treatment, the conductivity of the base layer can be increased by 3 times, and the functional needs can be completed with the help of microelectronics technology and sensor technology. Based on this woven structure and special fiber structure, the research team successfully developed a fabric light source. In screen printing, color patterns are printed on fabrics with the help of microencapsulated zinc sulfide particle color paste containing copper. These particles can emit light when excited by fabric electrodes.
