Copper ion fiber is a synthetic fiber containing copper element. It has good antibacterial effect and is an artificial antibacterial fiber.

Definition

It is an antibacterial fiber. It is a functional fiber that can block the spread of diseases and provide hygiene and cleaning. It plays an important role in antibacterial textiles. It is generally divided into natural antibacterial fiber and artificial antibacterial fiber. Among them, artificial antibacterial fibers incorporating metal ion antibacterial agents have developed rapidly in recent years. It has the characteristics of high safety and no drug resistance, especially its excellent heat resistance and chemical stability, and has been widely used in fiber and other fields. The commonly used metal ions in inorganic antibacterial agents are mainly silver, copper and zinc.

Application

Silver ion antibacterial fibers have been widely used in the past decade. However, due to the high price of silver, manufacturers of silver ion fibers have not yet reached a satisfactory level in the proportion of fibers they add. On the other hand, if silver ion textiles are used for a long time, silver ions entering the human body through the skin will accumulate and endanger human health. Through research, it has been found that most copper compounds are soluble, so the copper ions entering the human body are also in a dissolved state. They can be easily excreted from the body through metabolism, but silver ions cannot. Therefore, using copper instead of silver ions for antibacterial textiles has become a consensus and popular trend in the industry today. About 10 years ago, Europe and the United States began to use copper fiber, starting with products such as anti-allergic makeup brushes, towels, and mattresses. This was the bud of the antibacterial functional textile market, and sales in the local market were strong.

Production method

The processing methods of artificial antibacterial fiber include blend spinning method, finishing method and graft modification method. The processing method of copper ion fiber is similar:

1. Blended spinning method

The blend spinning method is mainly for fibers without reactive side groups such as polyester, polypropylene, etc. Copper powder or copper compound powder is added to the fiber during the fiber polymerization stage or in the spinning solution, and spinning is performed using conventional spinning equipment. This method is currently the main means to develop functional fibers. Its advantages are easy development and simple equipment. Its disadvantages are antibacterial stability and high efficiency. Most of the added functional powder is embedded inside.

2. Post-finishing method

The post-treatment method is to use antibacterial liquid to impregnate, pad or coat the fiber, and fix the antibacterial agent on the fiber through high-temperature baking or other methods. Commonly used methods include surface coating method, resin finishing, microcapsule method, etc. The post-finishing method does not require large equipment investment, is easy to process, has a wide range of antibacterial agents to choose from, and can treat all types of fibers, especially natural fibers. However, the disadvantage of this method is that the antibacterial fiber produced is not resistant to washing and has poor antibacterial durability.

3. Graft modification method

The graft modification method is to modify the fiber molecules and then combine antibacterial groups through coordination chemical bonds or other types of chemical bonds, so that the spun fibers have antibacterial properties. Use this method to prepare antibacterial fibers. Although it is necessary to select appropriate antibacterial groups and strictly control reaction conditions during the development process, its antibacterial strength, durability, stability and safety are superior to other metal ion-based antibacterial fibers. The disadvantages are This method is technically difficult to produce.
