Flax is an important raw material for clothing fabrics in the hemp textile industry. Its fibers are strong, soft and have good color. Flax fiber is strong, not easy to rot in water, and has waterproof effect. In addition, it has unique advantages such as friction resistance, high temperature resistance, fast heat dissipation, low dust absorption rate, not easy to tear, not easy to burn, no static electricity, and high acid and alkali resistance. It is the first choice textile raw material for the pursuit of green and environmental protection, and is known as the “Queen” of natural fibers.

It is recorded in various ancient herbal medicine codes. Flax is warm in nature, non-toxic, activates blood circulation and moisturizes dryness, dispels wind and detoxifies, benefits the liver and kidneys, and protects the skin. Especially when used in skin treatment, it has very good curative effects. According to the traditional view of motherland’s medicine, Chinese textile experts believe that flax is the cortex fiber of plants. Its function is similar to that of human skin, and it has natural properties such as protecting the human body and regulating temperature. Linen clothing can reduce human body sweating compared to other clothing materials. It absorbs water several times faster than satin, rayon fabrics, and even cotton. When it comes in contact with the skin, it forms a capillary phenomenon and is an extension of the skin. The natural air permeability, hygroscopicity, freshness and moisture dissipation of flax make it a free-breathing textile. It can reduce the indoor temperature of the human body by 4-8°C at normal temperature. It is called “natural air conditioner”.

Flax fiber is the earliest natural plant fiber used by humans. The development history of flax is almost as famous as the history of human civilization.

The starting point of flax development. Ten to twenty thousand years ago, ancient people began to cultivate flax in the Nile Valley. It can be inferred from modern archaeological discoveries that linen weaving appeared as late as 5,000 to 4,000 BC, and looms had already appeared at that time. Later, people introduced flax to countries along the Mediterranean. Since the Middle Ages, linen has been used from Switzerland spread to France, Britain, Belgium and other countries. By the beginning of the 10th century, flax fiber began to circulate on the market as a commodity.

In 1760 AD, the Russian inventor Rodion Grinkov invented the flax combing machine, which brought the linen textile industry into a new era. Later, in France, which was rich in flax, Napoleon issued an order offering a reward of 1 million francs in order to solve the clothing problem at that time. Rewards for inventions of spinning machines that can produce better linen textiles. In 1810, Frenchman Philippe Gérard invented the wet spinning frame. Since then, the first prosperous period of the linen textile industry has appeared in the history of human textiles. my country’s fiber flax was introduced from Japan in 1906. In 1985, the cultivation area reached 65,000 hectares, and the total fiber output reached 71,000 tons, mainly distributed in Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces.

As a kind of raw material health-care textile, linen textiles have attracted more and more attention. In order to develop, research and confirm the health-care functions of linen textiles more scientifically and realistically, people have done a lot of experiments and identification work to verify and verify. The relevant information about linen is now introduced as follows:

1. Hygiene: Director Zhvikin of the Russian Flax Bast Research Institute believes that for the human body (especially for patients with skin diseases), no fabric can be as good as linen fabric.

2. Comfort: Davis in the United States used electroencephalography to record the movement of the eyes and the humidity, body and skin temperature between the mats on sleep. The investigation showed that compared with cotton sheets, using linen mats makes people feel more comfortable. Fall asleep easily, sleep well, and wake up in a happy mood.

3. Coolness: Russian research institutions have conducted seven years of experiments in Central Asia, proving that the surface temperature of wearing linen clothing is 2 to 2.5 degrees Celsius lower than that of wearing cotton and silk clothing, and the temperature between the skin and clothing is lower than that of wearing linen clothing. Other fabrics are 3 to 4 degrees Celsius cooler, and the suction power of linen fabric to the skin is only 70% of that of cotton fabric.

4. Antibacterial properties: The results of testing the survival of bacteria on three mats at different times by the Health Microbiology Teaching and Research Section of the School of Public Health of Shanghai Medical University using the contact method showed that compared with bamboo mats and straw mats, linen mats have significant antibacterial properties. It has a bacteriostatic effect of more than 65% against international standard bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans, and a bacteriostatic rate of more than 90% against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Nowadays, linen products are high-end products, a symbol of fashion and status, and are favored by consumers for their natural, green and environmentally friendly properties. With the improvement of people’s living standards in our country, people are increasingly partial to the unique concept brought by flax.
