Common flame retardant finishing agents can be mainly divided into two categories: those for cellulose fibers and those for chemical fibers. Things to note are as follows:

Flame retardants for cellulose fibers
The dosage of flame retardant is generally 300-400g/L. It is generally necessary to add resin and phosphoric acid or diammonium hydrogen phosphate to improve the flame retardant effect and wash resistance (principle: adding resin to cross-link and improve wash resistance; nitrogen and phosphorus synergistic effect Can improve flame retardant effect). And flame retardant cloth generally cannot be too soft. Many flame retardants will reduce the flame retardant effect. It is better to test the compatibility with the flame retardant in advance. After the flame retardant finishing, alkali washing is required to reduce the formaldehyde content and improve the sticky feel.

Flame retardant finishing agent for chemical fiber
The amount of flame retardant used for chemical fiber is generally small, 50-200g/L. It needs to be adjusted to a pH value of 5-6 with caustic soda or soda ash, and then flame retardant finishing is carried out. The setting temperature is relatively high (polyester is generally about 190 degrees, nylon is about 170 degrees). After the flame retardant finishing, the unfixed flame retardant should be removed through alkali washing to improve the sticky feel problem.

Finally, the effect should be tested according to the customer’s testing method. For blended fabrics, if one of the fibers contains less than 10%, flame retardant finishing should be carried out according to the fiber with the highest content, and it is washable. For example, for 95% cotton and 5% polyester, flame retardant finishing should be carried out according to pure cotton, and the effect It is washable; but for 65% polyester and 35% cotton, no matter what flame retardant is used, it is not washable. This is one of the current problems in the industry.
