杨东辉介绍，2014年我国纺织行业产量增长了7%，利润增长了9%，出口量增长了5.1%。虽然形势整体向好，但在平均利润线以上的企业只有30%，且这三成企业利润占全行业利润总和的80%。
杨东辉说，长期以来，我国纺织品生产耗水耗能问题尤为突出。近年来，环境约束、能源约束对纺织行业的影响越来越大。“节能减排成为纺织行业必须过的一道关。如果过不去，企业很可能面临淘汰。”
浙江省印染行业协会秘书长马知方介绍，在浙江不少地方要求取消燃煤锅炉，使用天然气锅炉；有的地方虽然允许使用燃煤，但要求其排放达到天然气锅炉的标准。
国际环保组织自然资源保护协会(NRDC)高级科学家LindaGreer博士介绍，由NRDC与世界银行集团旗下国际金融公司在2014年合作开展的“清洁始于设计”项目取得良好的节能减排效果。
据介绍，包括塔吉特Target、盖璞Gap、李维斯Levi’s和H＆M等国际品牌供应商在内的33家中国纺织印染企业在2014年参与了这一项目。
在节水方面，在过去一年中，企业节水300万吨。每家企业平均节水9%，其中其中节水量多的五家企业平均节水20%以上，多的一家节水约36%。
在节能方面，企业平均节能6%，其中节能量多的五家企业平均节能10%以上，多的一家节能约22%。同时，化学品用量减少了约400吨，主要为染料。
Greer介绍，通过环保佳实践的积极实施，这些企业显著减少了其生产过程对生态环境的影响，并节省了大量染料和助剂的使用，项目总�The economic benefit reached nearly 100 million yuan (14.7 million US dollars). In 2015, this project will be expanded to Suzhou, another major textile base in China.
